Meeting The Client Brief

Image
LO4 (Unit 3) - Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief. (M4:U3,  D1:U3) My front cover and double page spread sample pages have been completed, by myself, using Adobe Photoshop. I have exported both content as j.peg images. This enables me to easily upload it onto any computer (or any other devices), ensuring that the content cannot be manipulated, and that the fonts/texts do not appear faulty or are lost. Front Cover: This is my final and completed front cover for my magazine. This front cover meets the client brief as all of the content is original and created/produced by me. It also meets the requirement to create sample pages, as this is the front cover sample page. The image was photographed in North London (Camden Lock, to be specific) by myself. This meets the client brief, as it specifies that the magazine should be North London based as well as include original content. ...

Post-Production Techniques & Processes

Image
LO4 (Unit 3) - Be able to carry out post-production techniques any processes for an original media product to a client brief. (P5:U3) Both my front cover and double page spread were created and edited on Adobe Photoshop For my front cover, I wanted to make the person in the image stand out as much as possible. As the background was vibrant and had a great amount of distracting features (such as graffiti, various objects/buildings, etc) I decided to soften it and make it black and white. I then uploaded the image again, but this time removing the background from the person, using the magnetic lasso tool. I then copied the layer and pasted it onto the black and white image. This enabled me to add the image of the person without the background, which is what can be seen in this image as the finished result. This makes the main subject of the image stand out and more eye-catching. In this image, I have added the logo for Grimed Out Magazine as the ma...

Creating Production Materials

Image
LO3 (Unit 3) - Be able to create production materials for an original media product to a client brief. (P4:U3, M3:U3) For the production of my magazine, I took a series of original photographs on a Canon DSLR camera. Two of these images, that I believe to be the best shots, will be edited and used for my double page spread and front cover in Grimed Out Magazine. Image 1: Type: Medium-long shot This is the image that I have selected for my front cover. I chose this photo for my front cover due to the many features it includes. For example, there is a vibrant and eye-catching background consisting of graffiti. The justification for this is that it will fit well with the theme of Grimed Out Magazine as the logo looks like spray-painted graffiti, and is also photographed in an urban area, that tends to attract ages between 16-20 (this is also the age demographic for Grimed Out Magazine). Image 2: Type: Medium-close shot For my double page spread, I ...

Planning & Developing Pre-Production Materials

(P3:U3, M2:U3) Gantt Chart: Permission forms: Location Reece: Risk Assessment:  Mood Board: Layouts: Since my pitch, I have further developed my layout plans for the content within Grimed Out Magazine. As the client suggested a more organised and easier-to-follow leading, I edited the format of my initial design ideas. I have also included a wider range of colours in my new designs, to create a more eye-catching appearance. Evaluating Responses

LO3 (Unit 21) - Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions (D1:U21) Client Feedback: During my pitch, the client made a suggestion of expanding my age range and branching out to those over the age of twenty. This suggestion is something I would consider, however, based on secondary research, I have found that the main audience who listen to grime are ages between 16-20. From this research, I have concluded that I should mainly focus on targeting my magazine at this age range, as the magazine is most likely to appeal to this demographic.  Although It believe expanding the target audience/establishing a secondary audience will benefit the magazine and increase the chance of sales, I believe that as Grimed Out Magazine is in its early stages, and not yet fully developed/well known within the industry, it will be unrealistic to try and appeal to a wide range of individuals. In order to ensure that the magazine is not unsuccessful, I will...

Pitching Ideas & Evaluating Responses

Image
LO3 (Unit 21) - Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions (P4:U21, M3:U21) The following blog-post contains my presentation as well as a video of my final pitch, from which I presented the concept for my magazine entitled 'Grimed Out'. I have also included questions and responses regarding the magazine, and the handouts that a gave to the client. Presentation: Media pitch - Grimed Out Magazine from tahlialorenz Pitch: Questions: Below are the responses to the questions that I was asked during my pitch. I have answered them in more depth to ensure that the client receives a better understanding of my magazine, as well as ensuring that I have listened to and interpreted the feedback and gained a full understanding. In your plan, would you want to grow your demographic beyond 20 year olds? As grime is listened to by a wide age range, we would definitely consider having a secondary target audience that we ...

Planning & Preparing A Pitch

Image
LO2 (Unit 21) - Be able to create a proposal and pitch for an original media product based on a given brief (P3: U21,  M2: U21) For my first pitch, I presented my proposal document as I did not have a completed presentation. Below is a video of my initial presentation (the document I presented can be found on the previous blog). The purpose of this practice pitch was to gain feedback from peers so that I can make emendations, so that when I presented my final pitch, it is completed to the best possible standard, and meets the clients requirements.  Questions: The following questions/comments are the feedback that I received from my peers after presenting my practice pitch. This was useful as it enabled me to practice presenting as well as identify what needs improving. Are you going to ensure your magazine is ethical? In order to be ethical, Grimed Out magazine will not be targeted at a particular gender, race, religion, etc. We want to ensure anyon...
