Planning & Preparing A Pitch

LO2 (Unit 21) - Be able to create a proposal and pitch for an original media product based on a given brief

(P3: U21,  M2: U21)

For my first pitch, I presented my proposal document as I did not have a completed presentation. Below is a video of my initial presentation (the document I presented can be found on the previous blog).
The purpose of this practice pitch was to gain feedback from peers so that I can make emendations, so that when I presented my final pitch, it is completed to the best possible standard, and meets the clients requirements.

Questions:

The following questions/comments are the feedback that I received from my peers after presenting my practice pitch. This was useful as it enabled me to practice presenting as well as identify what needs improving.

Are you going to ensure your magazine is ethical?
In order to be ethical, Grimed Out magazine will not be targeted at a particular gender, race, religion, etc. We want to ensure anyone within the age demographic can read Grimed Out magazine, by not promoting any negative stereotypes towards the grime genre (for example, the explicit and violent lyrics). Instead we wish to promote the positive stereotypes (such as, the fun and upbeat aspect to grime music).
Another ethical issue, includes libel. This is unethical as it is harming an individuals reputation with false information. This is also a legal implication as the person who committed a libel act could face being sued by the individual who was a victim to the action. To ensure that this does not occur, I will ensure that all the information used throughout the content of Grimed Out Magazine, is from both reliable and reputable sources.

Do you think the magazine is suitably priced in comparison to other magazines?
The magazine will not be too cheap, as we need to be able to afford the production of the magazines high quality, glossy finish. However, we are going to beat competitor prices, such as Q magazine who sell their annual subscription higher than ours by £10.
This is because we have taken into account that the majority of our age demographic are in part-time/full-time education and will not be earning a great amount of money, due to this factor.

Who are you going to advertise in your magazine and the type of client?
In Grimed Out Magazine, we will want to keep the content primarily based around music, and more specifically, grime. This means including clients who want to promote their upcoming albums, tour dates, etc.

How often is your magazine going to be released?
As we want the magazine to be as exclusive as possible, it will be release each month. This means that each issue will be packed with interesting content that has been accumulated over the course of the month.
By releasing Grimed Out Magazine each month, we are also preventing readers from getting bored. If it is released more frequently (such as every week) then readers may get tired of the magazine and content may become too repetitive.

Are there other more useful locations, other than a newsagent, where you can sell the magazine?
Places such as music venues, bars and nightclubs are other useful and effective locations to sell Grimed Out Magazine as many music fans and members from our target audience tend to frequently visit these areas. This increases our probability of selling copies, as the chances of Grimed Out Magazine catching the eye and appealing to passers by is relatively high.

Do you believe it is a suitable aim to become the most prominent magazine within North London?
As there is no grime specific music magazine within London, there is a gap in the market. Despite grime being a relatively niche genre of music, grime music fans are yet to be catered for, meaning Grimed Out Magazine has a high potential to sell and gain popularity.
